Reading for Reading
Assignment: You will read a notable book of your choice and complete a creative project that demonstrates your understanding, engagement and thinking.
I read the book Speak by Laurie Halse Anderson, and this is my creative project.
Goals: The outside reading requirement serves two purposes.
- It gives you the opportunity to read fiction and to read for pleasure.
- It gives you the chance to practice some of the social science skills that we are learning in class.
Central Themes: Our study this year focuses on examining and understanding human experience, and will center on the following ideas:
- Cultural rituals, conventions and habits.
- Social class and social inequity.
- Seeing through multiple perspectives such as cultural, social, gender, psychoanalytic.
- Understanding multiple perspectives.
- Leaving home and turning points.
- Understanding the truth about human experience.
Requirements:
- Reading Level: The book I chose was agreed upon and I read it.
- Book Submission Form: I turned in my Book Submission Form, and you approved my book.
- Creative Project: This is my creative project. I hope that it thoroughly expresses the themes, storylines, characters, etc. and connects them to the central themes.
- Quotations: The quotations I chose are on the 'Analyze' page.
- Reflection: My reflection is on the 'Analyze' page.
