Reading for Reading

Assignment: You will read a notable book of your choice and complete a creative project that demonstrates your understanding, engagement and thinking.

I read the book Speak by Laurie Halse Anderson, and this is my creative project.

Goals: The outside reading requirement serves two purposes.

  1. It gives you the opportunity to read fiction and to read for pleasure.
  2. It gives you the chance to practice some of the social science skills that we are learning in class.

Central Themes: Our study this year focuses on examining and understanding human experience, and will center on the following ideas:

  • Cultural rituals, conventions and habits.
  • Social class and social inequity.
  • Seeing through multiple perspectives such as cultural, social, gender, psychoanalytic.
  • Understanding multiple perspectives.
  • Leaving home and turning points.
  • Understanding the truth about human experience.

Requirements:

  1. Reading Level: The book I chose was agreed upon and I read it.
  2. Book Submission Form: I turned in my Book Submission Form, and you approved my book.
  3. Creative Project: This is my creative project. I hope that it thoroughly expresses the themes, storylines, characters, etc. and connects them to the central themes.
  4. Quotations: The quotations I chose are on the 'Analyze' page.
  5. Reflection: My reflection is on the 'Analyze' page.
